TRAINING SESSIONS
KI-Coaching is an athletic discipline that offers an instruction based on the art of shotokan karate. Classes can be taken privately (two students maximum) or in groups.
Karate is a form of non-weapon combat imported from India via China. It is organized in schools that follow two different intentions. The first, shorin, emphasizes ample and rapid techniques. The second, shorei, focuses more on contraction and force. Traditional shotokan karate is a synthesis of different schools and proposes a vast exercise program. A KI-Coaching training session associates three fundamental elements of karate which enhance an individual’s potential and eliminate factors that prevent balance: kihon, kumite and kata.
The basics of K x 3 training:
Kihon:
The stationary or mobile repetition of basic techniques. The student is engaged in a succession of simple or complex defenses and hand/foot attacks. These repetitive sequences teach proper movement, whole body toning, mental strengthening, and fundamental defense/attack techniques that develop important reflex actions that can help you manage highly emotional situations.
Kumite:
Literally “the meeting” (kumi) “of hands” (te), kumite is combat practice in karate. There is a difference between Kihon Kumite, a basic fight in which attack and defense techniques are agreed upon beforehand, and Jiyu Kumite, an open combat between two opponents. The techniques acquired through kihon are put into practice in kumite. KI-Coaching is a light and fun approach to combat; any violent behavior is forbidden.
Kata:
Defined as “form”, kata is a choreographed and fictional combat. It is a predetermined succession of defenses and attacks against an imaginary opponent who strikes at different angles. Kata is the essence of traditional karate and the primary source of KI-Coaching. Each kata movement is explained through bunkai, which is the interpretation of a combat technique and the experimentation of its practical application.
The performance of an entire kata or a section of a kata allows you to reach the highest philosophical, spiritual and therapeutic level of a martial art. Katas hold a wealth of extraordinary knowledge about the body and mind. This is important for the harmonization of your energies and the positive development of your personality.
Additional exercises:
Shotokan karate emphasizes movement control. We mentally visualize the impact of a punching technique on the opponent 'sparring partner' without touching them with full force. This method develops self-respect and self-control. However, there is a discrepancy between the reality of combat and the feeling of frustration common to a student of this style. In order to discover the virtues of punches “released” completely, each KI-Coaching session proposes training-pad sessions (stationary or in motion) to let you truly evaluate the effectiveness of a punching technique, and free repressed aggressiveness, accumulated stress and many other harmful factors that can hinder an individual’s physical and psychological activities. |
